Buyer's Remorse

Bitter. Taste. In. Mouth.

Every morning I drink my coffee and prowl eBay & the J.Crew web sites. This morning, I about spit coffee over my iPad screen. At the end of the summer I bought two Tippi sweaters, the pink & the Kelly green, at full price. Love them both; love the Tippi. Today, not three? weeks later, the Kelly green is listed @ $39.99 w/ 30% off. With my teacher's discount, it would cost $23.79. Hm. $67.58 or $23.79. (A $44 savings!). The pink one is also marked down to $59.50; $35.40 after discounts for a savings of $32.18. Total overpay = $76. Contemplating ordering them online and returning the full price sweaters--tags on and all b/c I still can't wear them for another ?# weeks b/c it's still close to 90 degrees out... I could ask my PS to give me a price adjustment, but I get a prickly feeling thinking about it--seems somehow wrong--like the people who return half-eaten watermelons to Walmart. Maybe I should wait longer. By the time I can wear the sweaters, they might be free.

I will never buy full price J.Crew clothes ever again. Amen.

Thanks for reading!

  2. That is frustrating! You can feel good, however, in the fact that I read your blog this afternoon and immediately ordered both at the discount AND a dress that had been out of stock and is now on sale! Thanks!!!!

  3. The buy-return cycle is tiring and usually doesn't result in savings for me as I end up buying something else. If I haven't worn the item(s) and the savings is significant, I'll do the buy-return. These days I just try to wait for the price I'm comfortable paying with no regrets. I feel your pain!

    1. Gigi,
You always show such cool pieces on your blog! I wish I shared your enthusiasm for the new fall pieces--I don't. There's nothing in store that is of any interest to me now--save more colors of the Tippi, and an occasional lucky find in the sale section. I think I have the J.Crew blues! May my wallet grow and prosper! I'm going to order the sweaters on sale today right from the store if they won't adjust the prices. Conscience be damned! :)

  4. Glad I'm not the only one who has done that :( It's very frustrating! I have also promised myself no full price things...and then lost out on something I really wanted that sold out. So I guess I do both now - full price for some things but wait on others. I also get a little off track with the educator discount. It's only 15% - but sometimes I use it to justify my purchases. Sigh. Dang J Crew, gets me every time.

    1. I'm just waiting for the day when they stop allowing me to use the educator discount w/store discount. Especially on online purchases. It's not much, but it makes a difference on a larger order! Wish they could verify it on my account for online purchases so I wouldn't have to go in to have it applied--they track everything else...

  5. Amen, sister. I have no idea why anyone would pay full price for J Crew. Even when it is a hot buzz item--there are SO many store across the country, you can usually track down the item on sale, SOMEWHERE:)

    1. I hear you! And I've always been pleased at the friendliness of the "find it now" folks on the phone! Spent more time chatting with some of them than ordering clothes! :)

    1. Isn't it fun to find that BIN deal on an older item? Sadly, (or gladly) I've been finding less and less lately. I guess that just makes the things I do find all the more awesome! Bit the bullet and ordered wool lined trousers last week--such a risk with pants! They're gorgeous! Came with price and security tags in tact. A little expensive for an eBay purchase, but not in comparison to new in store! Not to mention that wool lined pants are nowhere to be found...
